Vanpool Information for Employers
The City of Bend and Commute Options for Central Oregon have access to funding that will help offset the cost of vanpool commuting. The subsidy pays a 50% match towards the vanpool cost.

Cost: • 50% of the cost paid by Commute Options grants
Some vans may have seats available. Vanpools receiving the 50% matching funds must make unused seats available to the public.

• gas: 10 mpg for the 15-passenger van; 15 mpg for the 9-passenger van • van: based on mileage, e.g., $1,255/mo. for a 56-mile/day commute.
Cost per employee: • $3.80 per day compared to $28 per day at 50 cents a mile, savings of $6,389 per year for employees in a 15-passenger van • possible Business Energy Tax Credit (BETC) through the Oregon Department of Energy, of approximately 30%
Generally, a vanpool consists of 7 to 15 people who commute on a regular basis. One person is the driver/coordinator and normally rides free and can use the van for some personal trips. The riders determine their time and route and share the cost of operating the vanpool.
